Abstract

The oil produced water is a complex mixture of different organic and inorganic compounds is a major wastewater stream generated during oil and gas production processes. Comparative research study was carried out on the performance of different oxidation processes such as the solar photocatalyst of TiO2 and photo-Fenton for the treatment of low salinity oil produced water including polymer from oil fields in Oman. The treatment efficiency is evaluated in terms of degradation of Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). The COD and TOC degradation were 79% and 32.2% respectively for an optimum condition of photocatalyst 1g/L TiO2 with reaction time of 4 hours. The optimum condition observed with a reaction time of 2 hours in the solar photo-Fenton (1 g/l H2O2 , 0.2 g/l Fe+2) of COD and TOC degradation were 53.7% and 48.2% respectively.
