Method of determination of the coefficient of the surface tension on the drop image using the computer mathematical modeling

Michael Shoikhedbrod

Abstract

Until now by the most precise method of determination of the coefficient of surface tension on the drop or “lying drop” image is the method, proposed by F. Bashforth and J. Adams, based on the use of tables, calculated in a manual manner, of the dimensionless profiles of drops forms of the wide range of the Bond number and wetting angles.      In the existing today interpretations of this method, these tables are substituted by the computer calculations of the dimensionless profiles of the drops.     However, in connection with the fact that these methods simply duplicate these tables and in a manual manner choose the calculated main parameter of drop – Bond Number, precise calculation of drop profile, which corresponds to real image drop, and, consequently, precise calculation of the coefficient of surface tension, is not possible.      The use of methods of computer mathematical modeling for determination of the coefficient of surface tension on the drop image becomes relevant.     The paper presents the method of determination of the coefficient of surface tension on the drop image using the computer mathematical modeling, which permits to obtain an accurate calculation of coefficient of surface tension whereby the calculated drop profile coincides with great precision with image of real drop profile.    Keywords: Determination of the coefficient of surface tension; computer mathematical modeling, drop image, computer calculations, bond numbers.
