Solid-phase Synthesis of Peptides as Ligands of Nanoparticles for Brain–Drug Delivery

Jaya T. Varkey

Abstract

The blood–brain barrier (BBB) is working as a protecting barrier which is designed to protect the environment in the brain. It blocks the entry of hazardous substances into the brain but prevents the introduction of some drugs to treat brain and central nervous system. Lately nanoparticles are performing a major role in targeted drug delivery. But for the efficient act of nanoparticles as effective carriers in attacking brain cells their surface must be enriched with specific ligands.
Recently peptides have been identified as potential ligands for enclose nanoparticles. The solid-phase synthesis of selected peptide sequences on a newly developed PS-HDODA support is described. The selected sequences are difficult to synthesize in usual peptide synthesis methods.
