Abstract

From past few years, recycling of car wash water is getting more importance due to the lack of fresh water resources and also the demand of water is increasing day by day. In many industries including car wash industry, one of the major challenge to find an economic and efficient treatment solution for removing oil, soap, waxes oil, grease and contaminated water of car wash as these wastewater consists of a complex characteristics which require separation and treatment for purification. After service the wastewater of car washes has oil, soap and contaminants which are hazardous to the environment. The present research work focused on the design a system for reuse of car wash water to study & investigate the capability of bio-sand filtration & activated carbon (date pits) with variation of parameters such as COD, pH, BOD, TSS, TDS, TOC & turbidity. As a part of design in recent times for sand filter includes the layers of sand consists of fine, coarse and gravel sand, while the other column has the same components as in the original column, but these components are with activated carbon (date pits). The experimental observations shows that the TSS, turbidity, COD, BOD, pH, TDS, conductivity meter and turbidity shows the maximum removal efficiencies by sand filter with activated carbon column as increased the time. Similarly TSS, turbidity, COD, BOD, pH, TDS, conductivity and turbidity was decreased with time. The experimental result demonstrates that the sand filter with and without activated carbon is effective utilized for removal efficiency. Keywords: Automobile wash water, sand filtration, activated carbon, TDS, TSS.
