A New Multidentate Fluorescent Chemosensor for metal ions: Synthesis and Fluorescence Response

S. K. Degni, U. B. Eke, T. A. Abubakar

Abstract

We report the synthesis and the fluorescence response to metal ions of a multidentate pyridyl-based ligand in MeCN/H2O (3/7) solution. The ligand was synthesided via overnight refluxing of a ethanolic mixture of 2,6-diamino pyridine and di(pyridine-2-yl)methanone. studies reveal the ligand display sensing response ability in the presence of certain metal ions. It display significant fluorescent quenching in the presence of Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+, with remarkable fluorescence “turn-off” response to Ni2+, which can be used as a design for selective detection of Ni2+ among the studied metal ions. We would like to present preliminary result findings on the synthesis of a novel pyridyl-derived “turn-off” fluorometric probe for Nickel (II) ion.
