Existing pollutants reaching the Ganga River: A Mini Review

Abstract


Water is very essential for all forms of life. Rivers can be considered to be the main source of surface water. Most of the time our civilizations were generated on the river bank. However in recent times, the conditions of rivers  are very badly affected. The reasons for this  due to increase in population growth, rapid industrialization and agriculture methods resulting  deterioration of  waterquality.The Ganga river system has combined length of 12,500 km and a catchment area of 97.6 million ha. The industrial pollutants contaminate the Ganga to a great extent. The Ganga is damaged for dumping site for almost all type of wastes. It is heavily suffering from environmental pollution and it is almost considered as a dead river in our country. In this present article, an attempt is being made to review the current situations of the Ganga river.
