Abstract

Fluorescence quenching of ofloxacin (OFX) by Cu2+ in anionic and cationic micelles were investigated using steady state fluorescence spectrophotometer. It was found that quenching is purely static in nature both in CTAB and SDS micelle in acidic pH whereas it is static for a limiting concentration of Cu2+ in alkaline and neutral pH and beyond the limiting concentration of Cu2+, quenching sphere of action also plays role. Localization of OFX and quencher in micelle as well as pH of the medium plays an important role on the extent of quenching.
