Abstract

Abstract: Lactic acid has became a growing requirement in various fields so reactive extraction has been employed to recover by using tri pentyl amine and tertiary butyl amine in different diluents (1-octanol, chloroform and dimethylene chloride). Physical and chemical equilibrium isotherms, KD, loading ratio (Z) were measured through equilibrium studies for (1:1) and (2:1) acid amine complex formation at room temperature. By conducting kinetic studies in batch type reactive system order w.r.t to acid and amine, mass transfer coefficient, rate constant were determined at different lactic acid concentrations (0.1N to 0.4N). Enhancement factor and type of reaction regime for TPA and TBA with 1-octanol has been evaluated based upon the value of hatta number and other criterion conditions. Keywords: Reactive extraction, equilibria, kinetics, lactic acid, tripentyl amine, tributyl amine, 1- octanol, chloroform and dimethylene chloride.
