Abstract

Water bag of polyethylene terephthalate is typically used for soft drink, water bottles and other uses. Polyethylene terephthalate waste which is cleaned is cut into a size such that it passes through 2.36mm sieve using a scissor. Conversely, disposal of this waste material including waste plastic bags has become a serious problem and waste plastics are burnt for apparent disposal which cause environmental pollution. In addition, this waste plastic bag in bituminous mixes has proved that which enhance the properties of mix additionally solving disposal problems. This study investigated Construction of Flexible Road Using Waste Polyethylene Terephthalate and Aggregate Blended with Bitumen to be as a raw material for road building. The influence of operating variables for penetration test result was studied. The experimental design selected for this study was General Factorial Design with full factorial type. The optimization of penetration results were carried out. From the analysis of the experimental results the minimum amount of penetration result was found to be 43.67 (0.1 mm) under selected optimal condition this value of the modified bitumen is less than the control bitumen of 66.89 (0.1mm). Therefore, the operating variables had a significant effect on penetration test results. The polyethylene terephthalate coated aggregate with bitumen mix performance were investigated. The polyethylene terephthalate coated aggregate with bitumen mix performance of indirect tensile and compressive strength ratio results were found to be 97.85 and 95.06 percent respectively. The study indicated that Construction of Flexible Road Using Waste Polyethylene Terephthalate and Aggregate Blended with Bitumen are considered, not only as a progressive option in terms of sustainability, as an eye-catching option in improving the performance and amenity life of the road.
