Abstract

In this review, author has mentioned different techniques of separation mechanisms in bioengineering, like passive separation, magnetic separation, electrical separation, optical separation and acoustic separation. The extraction of blood plasma from human whole blood by separating blood cells is a need in biomedical industry. In the recent past, Mukhopadhyay as author has demonstrated different passive techniques to separate the polystyrene microparticles of different sizes in the designed microfluidic laboratory-on-a-chip systems achieving nearly 100% separation efficiency. This review will be helpful to choose the appropriate separation technique in different bioengineering applications. Keywords: Microfluidics, Passive separation, Magnetic separation, Electrical separation, Optical separation, Acoustic separation
