Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of Isonicotinic Acid Hydrazide (INH) using Iron (III) -2,2ı-Bipyridyl complex was studied spectrophotometrically in acidic medium. The stoichiometry of the reaction between INH and Iron (III) - 2,2ı-Bipyridyl complex was found to be 4:1. The rate of the reaction is enhanced by increasing [acid]. The reaction obeys first order kinetics with respect to iron (III) and 2, 2’Bipyridyl.The rate of the reaction is markedly accelerated in presence of anionic micelle sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS).The limiting nature of rate-[Surfactant] profile is a typical behavior of unimolecular micellar catalysed reaction. Berezin’s approach was applied for the kinetic analysis of the micellar effect. Keywords: Isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INH), Sodium dodecyl Sulphate (SDS), 2, 2’Bipyridyl, Kinetics.
