Acid Rain Effect on The Taj Mahal: A Review

Abstract


The “Taj Mahal” is synonymous to love and romance which is standing majestically on the banks of River Yamuna, The name “Taj Mahal” was derived from the name of mughal emperor Shahjahan’s Wife, Mumtaz Mahal, and means “Crown Palace”. The Taj Mahal is a very much world famous tourist spot due to its pure white marble, the exquisite ornamentation, precious gemstones and its charming location. However, it is a quite well known fact that for quite some time now, various polluting factors especially “Acid Rain” are responsible for the corrosion and wearing of the marble that forms the Taj Mahal. Acidification of rain-water is identified as one of the most serious environmental problems of trans boundary nature. It has become a serious topic around the globe in the 21st century. The air pollution levels are steadily rising in the metropolitan cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai. Acid rain problem in Bihar, West-Bengal, Orissa Southern Coastal India and most majorly in Taj Mahal tay is in Agra. Go through this article to know what acid rain is and how acid rain occurs and how much effects of acid rain on the Taj Mahal - India’s pride.
