Prantik Hazra

Abstract

This paper represents the effect of Covid-19 pandemic on agriculture and farming of Rajbari area, two and half kilometers away from Darjeeling town. In this survey work the total period of survey was divided into three slots, period from 10th September 2017 to 9th September 2018, 10th September 2018 to 9th September 2019 and 10th September 2019 to 9th September 2020 (which includes the lockdown as well as unlock phases). The agriculture and farming practiced during the first two slots did not show any significant loss, but the third slot, covering both lockdown and unlock phases showed minimal to moderate loss, although that was quickly compensated during unlock phases. So, it can be concluded that, most of the farmers of this area remains free from adverse effects of Covid-19 pandemic. Although to overcome this situation NGO’s, State Government and Government of India have taken several policies like providing money, subsidy, crop seeds, bee hives, supplying of live stocks for farming, PMKISAN scheme etc. Hope in near future farmers will be benefited via these above schemes.
