Fresh water production from sea water using DC current influence on sea water powered by solar energy
Abstract
Today, the existing methods for fresh water production from sea water are: distillation or thermal distillation, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, extraction and crystallization. The main disadvantages of these methods are: the complexity of the designs of desalinators and the used equipment, the economic unprofitability of their use due to high energy costs, the use of expensive and wear-resistant materials. The article presents a developed method of seawater desalination and a specially designed desalinator, powered by a solar panel, and using the seawater electrolysis process, which permits to desalinate large volumes of seawater, obtain gaseous chlorine, hydrogen and NaOH in sufficient quantities without consuming electricity, simply and cost-effectively. The developed desalinator is a device of continuous type that permits using it as a module in series and parallel connections of desalinators the controlling by the quality and productivity of the resulting fresh water.
