Abstract

Citrus sinensis is belongs to the Rutaceae family. This is also known as orange fruit and it contains several phytochemicals like phenolic compounds, phenolic acids, bioflavonoids (quercetin, rutin and kaempferol), saponins, carotenoids, citric acid and vitamin C (ascorbic acid). It shows various pharmacological activities like antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory activity, anti-diabetic activity, anti-cancer activity, wound healing activity etc. This plant control the various disorders in the society. Bioflavonoids also assist in the reduction of pain, the healing of fractures, the preservation of blood capillary integrity, and have natural antibacterial properties. Bioflavonoids have been used to increase vitamin C's efficacy, improve blood circulation, serve as an antioxidant, and treat allergies, viruses, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions. Orange peel contains very high content of rutin flavonoid. This rutin is extracted from this plant material through various extraction processes for medicinal drugs preparation. It is controlled various disorders. In this research work, the highest concentration of bioflavonoid (rutin) is obtained from peel of orange. Optimizations of physio-chemical parameters are solvent (chloroform), percentage solvent (100%), extraction time (48hrs) and partical mesh size (52 size) are involved in this extraction of bioflavonoid from this plant species. Finally, it was found to be 18.5μg/ml rutin content from this peel
