Overview of Petrochemical Solid Waste Composition and Impact on the Environment

ABSTRACT

Petrochemicals refer to all those compounds that can be derived from the petroleum refinery products. Petrochemical industries impart vital role in the national economy. Environmental issues have now become important considerations due to the potential harmful impacts produced by chemical releases. Unsafe emissions may be due to improper production process, poor maintenance practices and internal operational process problems. Petrochemicals cause acute and chronic health diseases such as ulcer, allergy, cancer, and liver and kidney problems to the living beings. This review work discusses various problems associated with petrochemical solid waste composition and impact on the Environment.With the rise of an environmental protection movement, the petroleum industry has placed greater emphasis on minimizing environmental impact of its operations. There is a tremendous amount of valuable information available on the environmental impact of petroleum operations and on ways to minimize that impact; this work tries to discuss the petrochemical solid waste composition and impact on the environment
