Abstract

Investigation on some components of the Mobile Air Compressor (MAC) was considered in terms of the concepts of reliability and the components compared are valve, filter, radiator unit and air hose. The research reveals that failure of any of the component investigated influences the operation of the mobile air compressor in gas plant facility. The research further revealed that failure of radiator resulting from overheating in most cases, influences the air hose, filter as well as the valve performance in the system and alternatively the same can occur upon the failure of each component considered in this investigation. The order of the failure of the components were filter > valve = air hose > radiator for first year, filter > valve > radiator = air hose for second year and for third and fourth year we have filter > valve > radiator > air hose and filter > valve > radiator > air hose. The investigation showcases the total downtime of four years of sampling of the order of valve > filter >air hose >radiator as well as the operational time of equal values of 62hrs/week for the first year, 58hrs/week for the second year, 54hrs/week for the third year and 49hrs/week for the fourth year. This study has demonstrated that each component of the mobile air compressor is useful for the smooth operation and performance of gas plant facility as well as for optimum productivity of the process plant.
