Sewage Treatment and Utilization

Goodhead T. O., Ukpaka C. P, Abowei M. F. N

Abstract

Sewage treatment and utilization is an eye opener to the solution of the global epidemic of environmental hazard posed by illegal disposal of fresh sewage into the environment and relatively low feed stock available for some processing Industries. The aim of this research was to make sewage environmentally friendly and beneficial to the global economy. This was achieved by subjecting sewage to various treatment processes thereby destroying the contaminants present. The objective of this work was to identify the sources of sewage, priority contaminant present, treat sewage to the point of becoming environmentally friendly and suggesting ways of utilizing the treated sewage. The treatment process was performed in a sewage treatment plant. The result was the production of environmentally harmless sewage by-products-sludge and effluent water which can be utilized as raw materials in producing several essential commodities.
