Supramolecular Chemistry for Ion Detection: A Review

Abstract

Chemosensors are generally organic molecules with high molecular mass consisting of various electrophilic and nucleophilic sites thereby allowing various neutral and ionic species to bind. They work at molecular level and allow various moieties to be sensed even at very low concentration upon binding to analyte. Sensing mechanism is based on host-guest chemistry where chemodosimeter molecules serve as host and ions or neutral molecules serve as guests thus facilitating in their qualitative and quantitative estimation.
